Sugaring

What exactly is sugaring? It’s an age-old hair removal technique using a natural paste made from lemon, sugar, and water. Originating in Egypt around 300 B.C., sugaring has seen a resurgence as more people seek organic, skin-friendly beauty treatments. Surprisingly, sugaring tends to be less painful than waxing. While both methods remove hair from the root, sugaring only adheres to hair, not skin, which means less discomfort and irritation. It can even remove hair as short as 1/16 of an inch—much shorter than waxing. Many clients notice reduced redness and fewer ingrown hairs thanks to sugaring’s gentle exfoliation of dead skin cells and follicle-clogging residue. It’s suitable for all skin types, especially sensitive skin!

What is sugaring hair removal?

Sugaring is a traditional Egyptian hair removal method using a natural paste of sugar, lemon, and water to gently extract hair from the root. Everyone has their favorite hair removal method, but sugaring stands out as a more natural, less irritating option. Unlike waxing, sugaring requires no strips or cloths, making it a preferred choice for many.

How does sugaring work?

The sugar paste, warm and gel-like, is applied against the direction of hair growth after prepping and powdering the skin to reduce stickiness on live skin cells. It only adheres to hair and dead skin cells, not live skin, reducing pain and irritation. The paste is flicked off in the direction of hair growth, removing hair from the root for smooth skin lasting 4-6 weeks. Regular sugaring weakens follicles over time, resulting in finer, sparser hair regrowth. Note: Hair should be about 1/8 to 1/4 inch for best results.

Differences between sugaring and waxing

Sugaring paste is room temperature, gentler, and less sticky, adhering only to hair and dead skin cells unlike wax which sticks to skin too. This means less pain, redness, and irritation. Also, sugaring uses organic ingredients, reducing the risk of skin damage compared to synthetic waxes.

Aftercare for sugaring

After waxing or sugaring, especially for sensitive areas like the bikini line, wear loose clothing and avoid heat sources like hot tubs or saunas for at least 24 hours. Showering is fine, but wait 24 hours before exfoliating or skin-to-skin contact. Daily exfoliation with salicylic acid and moisturizing with vitamin E or aloe helps prevent ingrown hairs and soothes the skin.

Recommended timeline between treatments

Sugaring results typically last 3-5 weeks depending on hair growth rate. Regular appointments every 4-6 weeks help maintain smooth skin and reduce hair growth over time.

Is sugaring less painful than waxing?

Sugaring tends to hurt less because the paste is warm, not hot, and is removed in the natural hair growth direction. It doesn’t stick to skin, only hair, which reduces pain and irritation. However, it still involves pulling hair out, so expect some discomfort, especially in sensitive areas.

What is Epilfree hair removal?

Epilfree is a European, patented, all-natural hair reduction system used after sugaring or waxing. It works by slowing cell division in empty follicles, reducing hair regrowth without the risks or cost of laser. Safe for all skin types and colors, including tanned skin and tattoos.

How to prepare for Epilfree treatment?

Arrive with clean skin free of lotions, makeup, or deodorants. Hair must be removed by waxing or threading beforehand, trimmed to 1/4 inch. We can trim for $10. Epilfree is applied immediately after hair removal one section at a time.

Aftercare for Epilfree

Do not wash, swim, exercise, or apply products on the treated area for 6 hours following treatment to ensure effectiveness.

Number of treatments needed

Most clients require 2-12 sessions for significant hair reduction. Results vary based on individual factors like hormones.

When will I see results?

Results often appear after 1-2 treatments but vary by individual hair growth cycles.

Epilfree advantages over laser or electrolysis

  • Works on all hair colors, including blondes and redheads
  • No risk of skin damage or pigmentation
  • No sun exposure restrictions post-treatment
  • 80% effective in reducing hair regrowth

Who can receive Epilfree treatments?

Suitable for men and women of all ages, including teenagers. Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women or those with thyroid issues.

How fast does hair grow back?

Hair growth cycles vary widely, usually 4-6 weeks. Some hairs may appear after sugaring due to different growth phases; multiple visits ensure all hairs are addressed.

Why might skin react to hair removal?

Sugaring is generally gentle but some clients may experience histamine reactions presenting as red bumps or welts shortly after treatment due to increased blood flow and swelling. This is normal and temporary.
